BMI Calculator
Free online BMI calculator. Calculate your Body Mass Index from height and weight in metric (cm, kg) or imperial (ft, lb) units, with WHO category classification.
What is BMI and how is it calculated?
Body Mass Index is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared (kg/m²). The WHO adult ranges are: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5-24.9 normal, 25-29.9 overweight, 30+ obesity. For a person 1.75 m tall, the normal range spans roughly 57 to 76 kg.
BMI is a population screening tool, not a diagnosis: it cannot distinguish muscle from fat, so muscular athletes score 'overweight' while being lean. Treat it as one indicator among several, and consult a professional for actual health assessment.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a healthy BMI?
- The WHO classifies a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 as the normal range for adults. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30+ is classified as obesity.
- Is BMI accurate for everyone?
- No. BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, so athletes may score high while being healthy, and it applies differently to children, pregnant women and the elderly. Treat it as a screening number, not a diagnosis.
- Is my health data stored?
- No. The calculation happens in your browser and nothing is saved or transmitted.
